Is Radical Change Impossible? Don’t Try To Convince Pope Francis.
America is experiencing several watershed events unfolding around us, and questions abound, e.g., can we make a radical change in policing?
Many are cynical, skeptical that wholesale changes in anything in this country never happen. Maybe they’re right; we’ll see.
But one thing is certain: the Catholic Church, with a membership four times the population of the U.S., is experiencing changes that anyone would have predicted to be utterly impossible before Pope Francis came along. Within less than a decade, his humanistic views have turned 1600 years of business as usual on its head. He’s urged reform in essentially every humanitarian issue on the table: gay rights, environmental responsibility, the treatment of immigrants, war, the death penalty, poverty, and contraception.
Here, he’s calling for a coming together of all humankind.
Will it happen? Again, questions abound.
