U.S. Military Won’t Be Sorry To See Trump Go
Given the honor and devotion to country required to make it to the top ranks of the U.S. Military, it’s hard to think of anything these people find satisfactory about Donald Trump as their Commander-in-Chief.
Shortly after the president bypassed the entire system of military justice and pardoned a convicted war criminal, I spoke with a few friends, including a close boyhood pal, a recently retired lawyer in the U.S. Marine Corps’ Judge Advocate General system. He told me that I could interview every career attorney in the JAG organization and not find one who wasn’t totally appalled at Trump’s choice to dishonor the entire military justice system so as to score a few political points.
Following this, we have the top generals like Mattis, Kelly, McMaster, McRaven, McChrystal and Mullen–all taking the extremely rare tack of sharply criticizing Trump’s character and mental faculties, thus challenging his fitness to lead.
Now, of course, we have the military’s reaction to the shock troops, summed up in the meme above.
You can be a Trump supporter, and you can be an honest and informed advocate of the U.S. military and its role around the globe. But you can’t be both.
