Tesla Sites EV SuperCharger In Weird Place

The good news: Tesla’s largest charging station depot (aka “supercharger”) is currently being installed, with 56 stalls and a restaurant.

The bad news: It’s in Firebaugh, California. Yes, that’s the middle of nowhere, but that’s not the issue; it’s a great idea to site charging stations between destinations.  But, as shown on the map below, it’s not on the road to anywhere.  Routes 5 and 101 are the two arteries that connect Los Angeles and the Bay Area.  The traffic through Firebaugh (pop. 8000) is very close to zero, and I’m not too choked up about that welcome sign, either.

Elon Musk doesn’t make many mistakes, but it’s hard to imagine how this will pan out.
