Flooding Hot Spots: Why Seas Are Rising Faster on the U.S. East Coast

Sea-level rise is of great concern to climate scientists and, of course, to those who live in flood-prone regions.  What’s interesting, though, is that certain coastlines are far more affected by this phenomenon than others.

Why?  Well, it’s explained in full here, but the short version is that the oceans don’t rise evenly, as they were one huge collection of connected bathtubs.  They slosh around, like enormous kiddie pools, and that sloshing undergoes some steady forces that make it non-random.
