Biden Deploys Common Sense and Decency
To be sure, no one knows what the world is going to be like 12 months from today vis-a-vis COVID-19, but it’s heartening to know that America’s response is now based on science and not some ridiculous act of nepotism.
I’m reminded of a conversation I had with my son when he was little, but old enough to see that my marketing consulting company was doing fairly well. He asked, “How did you know this was going to work?” I responded, “I didn’t. I just worked hard, applied what I knew about business, and used basic common sense. That’s not a guarantee of success, but it turns the odds in your favor.”
For the past four years, this country has been operating in such a way as to sabotage everything that makes it work in the long-term: education, relationships with allies, respect for science, environmental stewardship, rule of law, social harmony, community policing, some level of fiscal responsibility, and compassion towards others.
What Biden will do with respect to all this remains to be seen, but we have every reason to believe it will be based on reason and decency.
