‘Our Carceral System Laid Bare’: Trump Pardons Cronies Stone and Manafort as DOJ Proceeds With Lame-Duck Execution Spree

From this:

“A flow of pardons for the wealthy and corrupt, yet Brandon Bernard was left to die when his own jurors and prosecutor begged for mercy,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said late Wednesday, referring to the 40-year-old Black man the Trump Justice Department killed earlier this month for a crime he committed at the age of 18. “Our carceral system laid bare for the world to see.”

The more we learn about Trump’s disgusting abuse of the justice system, the more outraged we become.

But that’s the very point: outrage.  Trump’s playbook, since long before he had any serious political ambitions, has always consisted of keeping the people in his orbit so shocked that they’re virtually paralyzed in hate and astonishment.  His entire adult life has been spent creating chaos and rage at a level sufficient to render the business and legal world so horrified and unprepared that it’s unable to take effective action against him.

This is rather like the betting strategy of doubling one’s wager with every loss.  Bet $10, then $20, then $40, etc. until a final victory, which, btw works well, but only if the player has an infinite amount of money, which, of course, no one does.

This is precisely where Trump finds himself.  Sure, most Americans are appalled; we’re infuriated.  But the president has run out of explosions to set off.  He will be unable to declare martial law and overturn the election–or whatever his last-ditch tactics may be.  He will be removed from office, then pursued criminally.  The furthest-reaching criminal career in human history is about to come crashing down, and there is no power on Earth that can stop it.
