Can Biden Reunite the Country With His Mild Manner?
In response to this article on Biden’s attempt to reunify the country, someone noted: Soaring pleas for unity won’t work, but maybe concrete achievement will.
First, there is a problem with “concrete achievements,” i.e., that both sides take credit for them.
More to the point, though concrete achievements are always welcome, a simple cessation of meanspirited language will go a long way. Biden will usher in a period in American life during which we don’t go out of our ways to be ass***s to one another just for sport. If there is anything we know about him, especially at this stage in his life, it’s that he doesn’t stir up partisan rancor for its own sake.
This could be fabulously effective.
