That’s $519 million in cash, according to this.

As usual, there are hidden costs that are much harder to quantify.  The figure above doesn’t include the cost of:

• The further deepening disgrace and shame that the U.S. has suffered in the international community.

• Prosecuting and incarcerating seditionists.

• Increased security at all federal (and state) events in the indefinite future, now that we know that Americans actually are stupid and insane enough to do things like storming the Capitol.

• Repairing the Capitol and building additional barriers to prevent forced entry.

• Treating all the disease spread by the generally anti-mask protestors.

The harm is incalculable.  Making it stop is imperative.
