An Attempt to Achieve Political Unity

Honduran mother holds her two-year-old

Here’s a discussion with a reader who notes:

1. I think we can agree that it’s grossly unfair to female athletes to have to compete with biological males and, for women in general, to allow biological males, of whatever persuasion, into ladies’ and girls’ restrooms and locker rooms.
2. I think we can agree that open borders are a problem for any country and only immigrants who have followed the legal process should be allowed in.
3. There should be no problem in examining the election outcomes to ensure they were fair. There are laws in place to allow for that. For example, in most states, voting records and materials, such as ballots and computerized vote tally data, must remain available for at least 22 months after an election. It’s not a partisan issue. Everyone can see the need for this as a way to investigate, after the fact, and resolve any questions.  That said, several states are refusing access to ballots and voting machines by people wishing to forensically analyze the results. Assuming that the 2020 election was legitimate, I think we can all agree that access to and examination of records are bound to validate the results or answer the question in any case.

My response:

1. I agree re: sports competition; I can’t imagine how this happened in the first place. Re: bathrooms and locker rooms, I don’t understand. Are you saying you want someone who was born female but who is now male, complete with testosterone and male genitalia, in a women’s locker room?

2. I don’t think there is a single American who advocates for open borders, nor are there people who think our current system is optimal; in fact, it can’t possibly be, given that it violates both domestic and international laws on a daily basis. Immigration reform has been going back and forth in Congress since I was a little boy, but maybe that’s because it’s a more complicated issue than you present.  Consider things like DACA and the fact that illegal immigration is what prevents strawberries from costing $30/pound.

The two-year-old in the photo above has become the poster child for border cruelty.  You couldn’t have paid me $1 million take that kid from her mother, fwiw.

3. Given all the work that’s gone into counting the 2020 presidential election votes, recounting them, and litigating this from here to Halifax, most Americans have very little appetite for starting all this again from scratch, and there is no legal means for making that happen, given the courts’ findings; i.e., that the official tally passed muster with 60 different courts.  Most reasonable people joined the U.S. Attorney General in concluding that Biden actually HAD won by 7+ million votes and 66 electoral college votes.

IMO, if Trump is not indicted for election tampering in Georgia, he’ll be very lucky indeed. It’s really hard to imagine a more open-and-shut case.
