American Capitalism Is Starting to Grind
As suggested here, we really do have a problem in America regarding the distribution of wealth. Ever since I was a young man, I’ve believed that this is the inevitable end-game of free-market capitalism, a system of government that is totally amoral. Note, it’s not immoral; it doesn’t deliberately hurt innocent people; it just couldn’t care less about their well-being.
If capitalism is allowed to run its course, eventually the winners win and the losers lose, at which point there is a tiny number of extremely rich families to go on in perpetuity, with everyone else caught in the situation shown above: some poor guy who took out a six-figure student loan and now makes about $25,000 per year after taxes, unless he works two or three jobs.
Capitalism also fosters racism and causes wars.
The “social democracies” of Europe and Scandinavia by contrast offer all citizens valuable services, like free education and healthcare, as well as viable career paths. The starting salary of those who work at McDonalds in Copenhagen is more than $22 per hour. Yes, people who make more than $100K per year pay higher taxes, but no one seems to mind, because their community is safe and healthy, not to mention happy; these countries are perennial leaders in the World Happiness Index.
