Kids: Watch Out For Socialism!
Mike Huckabee wants your kids to know that socialism represents a very real threat to the United States.
The ad for this reads: We must stop the spread of socialism by educating our children before it’s too late. Our schools won’t do it, so Mike Huckabee’s team put together this free gift bundle to help you teach your kids and arm them with knowledge!
What I’m sure Uncle Mike understands but doesn’t seem ready to admit is that:
1) Socialized medicine is in place in Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, we have people going into bankruptcy and dying of treatable diseases because of their financial condition.
2) The public sector, via its tax base, provides each American infrastructure, police, fire fighting, criminal justice, national defense, public education, labor laws, auto and food safety standards, air traffic control, TSA, libraries, emergency medical care, environmental regulation, social security, Medicare, the National Archives, national parks, bank regulations and deposit insurance, copyright and patent laws, federal dams to provide electrical power, flood control, the Weather Service, the Federal Housing Authority, consulates and embassies, FEMA, veterans affairs, public water systems, monitoring of all international cargo, NASA, border protection, and the National Institutes of Health. Neither pure capitalism nor pure socialism exist anywhere on this planet.
3) The assertion that our schools won’t educate our children on socialism and other forms of government is a bald-faced lie. (I tutor in the local high school system, and I’m extremely familiar with its curriculum.)
4) #1, #2, and #3 above are facts. Here’s an opinion: deliberately misleading our children about the U.S. and world governments is morally wrong.
5) Another opinion: a far greater threat to American democracy lies in the potential for fascism. We just rid ourselves of a president who spent four years subverting rule of law so that he could retain power, and to tighten his authoritarian chokehold as far as he possibly could. In the process, it’s very clear that he committed fraud, election tampering, witness intimidation, extortion, violated both the emoluments clause of the Constitution and campaign finance laws, and incited sedition in an effort to seize and maintain control of the country.
