Technology Is Constantly Improving–What This Means
There are many reasons that it’s a mistake to invest in Big Oil, morality being chief among them. Another, however is practical. The only possible course for the world of transportation is the elimination of gasoline and diesel, as EV technology keeps getting better and less expensive.
The same can be said of the meat industry. Do not invest in the harvesting of beef, even if you don’t care about animal cruelty or the fate of humankind on planet Earth. If you make such investments, plant-based meat will eventually eat your lunch, pun intended.
Beyond Meat, the leader in the category, has had its products on grocery store shelves since 2012, but each of these products is undergoing constant improvement. To me, their burgers are already virtually indistinguishable from cow beef. Certainly there are folks who disagree, but such people will become increasingly few as the years pass and the recipe continually evolves in terms of taste, texture, and carbon footprint. And don’t forget about nutritional value: more protein, no cholesterol, 35% less total and saturated fat than 80/20 beef, fewer calories, and comparable B vitamins and minerals.
