Resentment Grows As To How Billionaires Are Spending Their Money
The possibility that someone, through a grand act of philanthropy, could completely obliterate a terrible condition on this planet only recently arose, simply because of the exponential growth in the net worth of the world’s richest people.
Jeff Besoz, the wealthiest person in human history, is currently worth $211 billion, and, as suggested in the meme, could focus his life and fortune on something like ending world hunger.
How much would this cost? Well, it depends on what precisely that means. Ending the malnutrition of 795 million hungry people would improve their health and life expectancy, and make them better students, thus more productive later in life, perhaps enabling them to break out of the cycle of poverty that is passed down from one generation to the next. The price tag for this is $7 billion annually, pocket change for Bezos.
As readers can learn here, there are far grander approaches to tackling world poverty, some of which exceed anyone’s ability to pay for them, though the point remains that Besoz would rather explore outer space than alleviate the suffering of almost one billion people. That this doesn’t sit well with some people is easy to understand.
