Philadelphia Bans Traffic Stops for Low-level Driving Offense, Known to Target Black Drivers

The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees “equal protection under the law,” meaning that law enforcement/justice can’t treat a certain class of citizens differently than another. Of course, there are numerous obvious violations of this clause, e.g., “stop and frisk” aimed at young black men.

As suggested in the headline above, the Philadelphia City Council just enacted a law that will make a material difference here.

The photo above features my parents’ country club. Trust me, there were no cops in the vicinity laying in wait to pull over white kids for failing to signal a turn.
