Unite The Right Organizers Hit Hard
From Reuters: A federal jury in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Tuesday found the organizers of the 2017 “Unite the Right” white nationalist rally liable for injuries sustained by counter-protesters and awarded approximately $26 million in damages.
My wife and I discuss Trumpism frequently. Is this what American society has devolved into, or is it a short-term perturbation, soon to evaporate and to become only a footnote in U.S. history?
Even the most optimistic among us have to admit that:
• Trump remains the central figure in Republican party politics.
• Until that changes, the Big Lie will stay in place as his supporters’ core belief.
• There is no evidence that Republicans will fail in the efforts at gerrymandering and voter suppression, given them a huge advantage in federal elections.
On the other hand, all this seems so profoundly unAmerican that it’s hard to imagine that it could have a long shelf-life. We’ll see.
