Republicans Divided on Big Lie
It seems there is an interesting schism playing itself out in the Republican party. Many key players in the GOP are realizing the stolen election narrative is simply making them appear stupid and blocking vital progress in battleground states.
But what does this look like going forward? Trump has been banging on this drum for 13 months; it’s not something anyone can pretend didn’t happen. This is especially true now that the investigations into the January 6th insurrection are in full swing and gaining momentum.
As noted in the article linked above, “At a meeting of shareholders last month, Rupert Murdoch, the executive chairman of News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, called on Trump to stop focusing on the past.”
OK, but let’s think about this for a second. Can Trump be a viable candidate after admitting that he lost the election fairly, something he denied thousands of times for more than a year?
If you’re in some backwater state running as a Republican for a seat in the House, and you want to focus on issues like inflation, or your right to forego a mask, go for it. Maybe your constituency will let you sweep the Big Lie under the rug, but maybe they won’t.
