God and Universal Healthcare
Although I’m not a religious person, I regard statements like this with interest. It does indeed seem that a loving God would want to see all His people taken care of.
The verb tense seems a bit strange, though. It’s what’s called a past conditional, meaning something didn’t happen in the past, but could have under different circumstances. E.g., “If I had been any hungrier, I would have eaten my shoe,” which means that I wasn’t, in fact, any hungrier.
To say that God would have wanted something is to say that, if He were still here, he would do it, implying that God disappeared somewhere along the way. That’s a weird belief.
