Florida Governor DeSantis Signs Bill To Restrict Tenure for University Professors
From this:
Saying organizations that accredit colleges and universities have an “inordinate amount of power,” Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Tuesday that will force schools to periodically change accreditors.
The measure (SB 7044) also significantly changes the process of reviewing professors’ tenure, a provision that has drawn ire from the state’s largest faculty union.
“It’s all about trying to make these institutions more in line with what the state’s priorities are, and quite frankly the priorities of parents throughout the state of Florida,” DeSantis said during a bill-signing event.
My daughter graduated from the University of California and Santa Barbara, which pleased me greatly, in part because the school couldn’t give a damn about what the state’s “priorities” are. Or, put a different way, the only “priority” at UCSB is a high-quality education free from political and religious biases.
I suppose the message is this: If you want your kid to go to school in a racist, regressive, anti-science environment, Florida is the place for you.
