Does Tucker Carlson’s College Need To Disavow Itself of His Racist Stupidity?
Tucker Carlson and I both graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and many fellow alumni are deeply chagrined to have any relationship, even by chance, with this abominable human being.
Here’s a letter on the subject that one Mark Johnson wrote to Joanne Berger-Sweeney, PhD.
Dear Dr. Berger-Sweeney: As Gregory Barison noted quite articulately yesterday, it is way past time for the College to speak out about the outrageous allegations and conspiracy theories perpetuated by Trinity alum and Fox News host, Tucker Carlson.
Tucker has his right to speak his views. So do you. He is an an embarrassment to our institution of higher learning. Leadership means being a leader. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable. But staying silent, and saying nothing is no longer acceptable and is tantamount to being complicit. It was true in the 1930’s and it’s true today.
I don’t understand the reasoning here.
Ignore the fact that a slim minority of people know (or care) where Carlson went to college.
The larger issue is this: Suppose Charles Manson had gone to Amherst. Should they publish something distancing themselves from a murderous sociopath? Might people have otherwise believed that Amherst grooms its students to become leaders of a cult, one of which killed an American actresses?
Donald Trump went to Fordham University, a private Jesuit research university in New York City. If he’s convicted of fraud, extortion, treason, or whatever, what can we expect from Fordham? “Given our relationship with God, the Father, and the Holy Ghost, we strongly disapprove of our graduates who try to overthrow the U.S. government?”
From here, it only gets worse. Leave it alone.
