What’s It Like To Live in Idaho? Take a Guess
As described here, the northwestern state of Idaho has become a magnet for white nationalists, gun nuts, and other members of the far-right.
The article poses the question “What’s it like to live in Idaho?” The answer is obvious. If this is the way you think, you’re enjoying the camaraderie of like-minded folks. If this isn’t the way you think, it’s probably pretty disturbing to be surrounded by hateful and ignorant people.
But that inspires another question, which I ask myself whenever I hear about how gay people are persecuted in a state like Tennessee: Why in hell is a gay person living there? Sell your stuff and move to someplace–anyplace–that isn’t a moral hellhole. It’s not like this country doesn’t have regions with decent, well-educated people. Just pick one.
Obviously, this would be a far better country if we were able to rid ourselves of all this bigotry and stupidity. But, as we look around, does that sound like something that’s actually becoming a reality? Until the United States begins to reach some level of enlightenment, it’s hard to blame people for moving out of places they’re not wanted.
Speaking for myself, I will most definitely not be finding out what it’s like to live in Idaho.
