A Great Sadness in Texas
The U.S. Constitution is hailed as one of the top 10 achievements in the history of humankind. Yet IMO, it has weaknesses, and the most profound came as a result of how the country was founded, i.e., as a rebellion against a strong federal government.
As a result, we have a system in which each of the 50 states creates the vast majority of the laws that govern their citizens.
That alone might not have become a tragedy if it weren’t for the growing levels of ignorance and hate within the electorate in certain regions of the nation. Now, we have states that are criminalizing all abortions, banning books, and actively promoting the purchase of assault weapons.
There are plenty of bright and wonderful people in Texas, but sadly, they are overshadowed by folks who believe the Second Amendment gives then the right to own surface-to-air missiles.
To the Lone Star state: please accept my condolences. I wish there were more that I can offer, but there isn’t.
