Some Advice on Self-Checkout Machines

The points being made here are all valid. But here’s some advice on top of that: don’t shop in stores that have them.

Most Americans have had the pleasant experience of shopping at Trader Joe’s.  It’s uplifting and fun, precisely because your fellow customers, and most definitely the staff, are happy, intelligent, kind people who are genuinely interested in helping you in any way possible.  They are not automata.  They smile.  They communicate.

Try to find anything resembling that in a CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, or Albertsons.

In addition to this reasoning, we have the issue of good citizenship.  Obviously, the Walton family would be thrilled if they could run their business without a single employee.  Their interest in the welfare of the common American is exactly zero.  Using self-checkout only makes it easier for greedy bastards to cut employees’ hours, lay them off, and crush those who remain into the pavement.
