A Low Opinion of Congressional Republicans
Adam Schiff was interviewed on Terry Gross’s long-running radio program “Fresh Air” yesterday, weighing in on the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.
In the course of the discussion, he made the point that Trump’s Republican supporters in Congress are generally intelligent people who couldn’t possibly believe the Big Lie. Many of them, he says, privately tell him to “keep up the good work” in investigating the coup attempt.
Schiff noted that the ballots in the 2020 election that brought them into office were the very same votes that they’re publicly claiming to be fraudulent yet they avoid the obvious conclusion that this would mean that they themselves actually lost.
Schiff admitted that there are, of course, a few people of extremely low intelligence and questionable sanity, naming Marjorie Taylor Greene in particular, but claimed that she’s a rare exception. He lives with the bitter disappointment in the knowledge that most of his Republican colleagues are gutless liars.
Disappointment is a common theme here in the United States. It’s hard to look at all the cruelty and the dimwittedness around us, and not wish that we and our loved ones were living in an earlier, healthier era.
