Sometimes One Knows Which Side to Be On, Simply by Seeing Who’s on the Other Side
Going into the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton made a huge political mistake by referring to Trump supporters as “deplorables.” Thinking something and saying it on camera are two different things.
Yet, as the late Leonard Cohen points out here, one thing that is attractive about progressives is that they are not “the other side,” i.e., hateful, uneducated conspiracy theorists who have neither the capacity to nor the interest in distinguishing truth from the torrent of BS they are being fed by the former president.
“Pitiable” is a better word than “deplorable.”
