In Defense of the Insurrectionists
I know I’ve commented on this before, but I thought this defense attorney made a point worth repeating:
“It’s not hard, at least from my perspective, to understand how vulnerable, unsophisticated people who’ve been fed this diet of B.S. (Trump’s Big Lie that the election was stolen) would behave in accordance with their president’s wishes.”
Samuel Shamansky
Attorney for defendant Dustin Thompson,
convicted on Jan. 6 crimes at the Capitol
A spokesperson for the jury that convicted Thompson of all six charges against him said something like, “We totally understand that the defendant thought he was following the instructions of the President of the United States. That doesn’t mean he’s not guilty of the crimes of which he is accused.”
I give Shamansky credit for the point he made above. For one thing, it’s honest, which isn’t something that can be said about everything that comes out of attorneys’ mouths. At least he’s not saying that his client was participating in “legitimate political discourse.”
Now it’s time to go after the true architects of the coup attempt.
