The United States Lies in a Pit of Disgrace
During the darkest days of U.S. policing that followed the murder of dozens of unarmed black men over the past few years, I used to ruminate on how sorry I felt for the hundreds of thousands of thoroughly decent law enforcement personnel who are now suddenly regarded as if they themselves knelt on George Floyd’s neck.
At left we see the three liberal justices of the U.S. Supreme Court expressing their sorrow for, yes, the millions of women who have lost a constitutionally protected right, but also, interesting, for the Court itself.
For the SCOTUS, the last couple of months has been the equivalent of Floyd’s murder. A reputation for honesty and fairness that Americans generally granted to the institution has been dragged down to a river and drowned.
Clarence Thomas is married to an insurrectionist, and voted on cases in which she had an interest. During their Senate hearings, justices Kavanaugh, Barrett, Gorsuch, and Alito all lied about their perspectives on Roe v. Wade.
There is no more honor in the Supreme Court at this point than there was in the Trump White House. Do whatever you want. Vote according to whatever oppressive ideology you happen to have in that thing you call a heart. Truth and decency be damned.
