The Second U.S. Civil War

From this piece from MSN:

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday posted an ominous message on his Truth Social platform in which he declared that the “cancer” coming from “the danger within” the United States was a much bigger problem than any external threat.

The Truth Social post came in reaction to a meme posted by one of the twice-impeached former president’s supporters that accused Democrats of being “totally heinous international terrorists.”

Reacting to this, Trump launched a threatening rant against his political foes.

“It was during the Trump Administration that the ‘Deep State’ corruption, and pure hatred of our Country, was fully EXPOSED – No longer just a nasty myth, concept, or idea,” he wrote. “This is yet another great achievement, but something must now be done to rid us of this Cancer that is purposely destroying our Nation. There is far more danger from within than anything coming from the outside.”

Considering that Trump’s go-to page in his playbook is accusing the enemy of that of which you yourself are guilty, this should come as a surprise to no one.  We can actually expect these allegations to become more outrageous and unhinged as time passes and the figurative noose tightens around Trump’s neck.

The question, of course, is how all this is going to play out as the criminal prosecution of the former president gathers steam.

At a certain point, it’s more than conceivable that Trump will be pushed so far into a corner that he’ll have nothing to lose by calling for a second insurrection–this one, potentially, a couple of orders of magnitude greater than January 6th.  Keep in mind that he’ll have the support of some number, we hope very small, of law enforcement and military personnel.

I recently reconnected with an old friend, one of whose children is applying for citizenship in the EU.  The young man doesn’t see how a soft landing is possible here, and he finds the conditions, especially the stupidity and the moral bankruptcy, to be unacceptable.  I’m sure he’s not alone.
