Define “Legitimate”

In an earlier post, How U.S. House Republicans Will Govern, I pointed out that a lot depends on how one defines a key word, in that case, “govern.”

The meme at left requires a similar task, defining “legitimate.”

You and I may think of “legitimate government” as one that honestly and effectively passes laws that improve the lives of the majority of the American people, whether that means better education, environmental stewardship, healthcare, or whatever.

We have to keep in mind, however, that almost half of U.S. voters are desperate for a government that suppresses the rights of women and LGBTQs, abuses immigrants, removes all laws that limit the rights to own weapons of war, promotes white nationalism and anti-Semitism, rejects science, and reinstates Trump as president (illegally if necessary).
