How “Green” Is Your Electricity?

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xs0yyzK_ts]
Here’s last month’s webinar, in which I interview Jim Holbery, Ph.D., CEO and founder of GridMobility.  It’s a 60-minute discussion on how electricity is generated, and how consumers can stipulate their preference for renewable energy.

This, of course, is a non-trivial task, as “green” and “brown” electrons move around our grid with no discrimination at all.  So how did Jim’s team pull this off?  I hope you’ll check it out.

I thought Jim did a terrific job at walking the audience through a fast-paced but fairly detailed look at some of the more interesting technological and economic issues associated with the way we generate and consume electricity.

Note that the company, GridMobility, is also looking for investors.  I encourage anyone who’s interested to let me know, and I’ll arrange a conversation with Jim.

It’s really very simple. If you make more clean energy than you use your green.

Our GRID Tied solar home makes more than we use to run our home and 100% electric LEAF. We also ride bicycles 40% of our trips. I only charge Off Peak yet I give clean energy right during the Peak Time Of day.
The Coming V2G Vehicle To GRID will help balance the storage of all energy. Imagine 1 or 2 million cars all pulled in with a smart GRID. They sit 20+ hours a day.

Even when we do drive we car pool and drive smart. I go 5.7 mile on 1 kWh of energy. The average for many EVs is 3-4 miles /hWh.

Our Grid Tied 5.4Kwh PV Array on the roof of our home supplies most of the electricity we need for our home. Recently, we installed another 2Kwh PV Array on our garage roof that should provide us with enough electricity over the course of a year, to not only provide enough electricity to power our new 2012 Chevy Volt for up to 7,000 miles a year, but the remainder will be available for the house to use.
