Senator Inhofe: A Real Threat?
On my recent piece calling for the removal of Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), a reader points out:
Senator Inhofe does not represent either of us, only the people of Oklahoma; therefore, what we think of him is practically irrelevant. If and when Oklahoma’s citizens tire of his rantings, he will be replaced.
If he weren’t a) chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, b) a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and c) threatening to bring criminal charges against the (mere 98%) of climate scientists who are warning us about the dangers of climate change, I’d agree with you.
In truth, however, (frequent commenter) Glenn Doty is probably right. I.e., his position is so completely ill-considered that it’s possible his antics are more an embarrassment to his cause than a support.
These guys like him are talking them selves out of reality. The public will see the error when reality knocks. Fox”News” feeds on one way minds.
These people will need to get out of the way however because they do pose an obstacle. I wish we could irritate them while they speak on TV so they “pull a Newt” or get out of line and show just what childish denial they want others to believe.
Greg Chick.
James Mountain Inhofe is so deep into the asteroid belt on the GW issue (and more than a few others) he makes other, just slightly less fervent deniers seem reasonable, and that’s a problem. Some of the most irrational, virulent critics, in fact, keep lobbying for the term “skeptic” to describe their position, which gives their views far more validity than they deserve, being almost entirely ideological or else rhetorical on behalf of their oil-and-gas clients. We can only hope the good citizens of the OK state come to their senses.
