Renewable Energy and Job Creation

Here’s an op-ed by former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson that makes a number of excellent points about renewable energy and job creation.  Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with that; we’re all concerned with jobs and the economy, and Richardson does a good job with this discussion.

But I have to laugh when I see pieces like this that either ignore the environmental issues associated with clean energy and fossil fuels altogether, or mention them very gingerly and obliquely, as is the case here.  It’s a sad commentary on who we are that, if you wish to be taken seriously here in 2012 U.S. politics, you darn well better not care too much about what we’re doing to our planet.

I’d say my comments on the following blog posts apply to this instance also – in large measure, this is yet another aspect of the same phenomenon, and I applaude Craig for his courage in pointing these instances up for all his readers:

We the People need to wake up en masse and get moving. The little-aired knowledge of these events that Craig provides here and elsewhere serves as an alarm clock to aid in our civilized survival.
