From Guest Blogger Angie Mansfield: Who is Using Google+ to Support the Green Movement?

Green initiatives are picking up steam as people around the world become more and more concerned with their environment, and with taking care of it.

Many companies and organizations have taken their message to social media, including Google Plus, to reach a wider audience.

Though they’ve achieved varying degrees of success, these companies are making an effort to change the world, one post at a time.

Here are a few of their stories:

Earth911.com

Devoted to providing accurate, actionable tips for reducing waste, Earth911.com maintains a healthy G+ presence.

Boasting more than 58,000 followers, the company posts articles, information, and specific tricks for cutting down on the amount of waste produced by your household.

The secret to their success is in providing resources that are both informative and entertaining to keep followers engaged. They also keep their suggestions to small, simple steps you can take to reduce your footprint gradually.

Next Green Car

As its name suggests, Next Green Car delivers independent, expert information about the environmental performance of new cars entering the market. Their goal is to help consumers make their next car purchase a greener one.

The company is a little newer to the Google Plus scene — their Facebook page, at just over 1,000 followers, has received more attention than its G+ profile with 139 followers.

But they haven’t let their follower numbers slow their message. With reviews of eco-friendly cars, news about new green cars being developed, and articles about green cars in the news, Next Green Car keeps their followers well informed in green automotive initiatives.

Greenloons Ecotourism

Tourism company Greenloons Ecotourism puts a unique spin on vacationing.

They work only with independently eco-certified tour operators and sustainable accommodation providers to help their customers take environmentally-friendly vacations.

They’re another company still developing their G+ profile, with 291 followers. But they do a great job of keeping their followers informed, with articles and information on green travel destinations and the ecotourism industry.

Their posts also cover other green issues, such as sustainable building projects and conservation.

The Environmental Blog

Founded in 2007 as an independent blog working to provide information on every aspect of green living, The Environmental Blog also keeps its followers informed on Twitter and Google Plus.

With regular posts on things such as soil-less agriculture, the pros and cons of biofuels, and natural alternatives (such as using cattails for home insulation), this group provides valuable information on a daily basis. Their efforts have earned them more than 1,200 followers on their ever-growing G+ page.

These companies and organizations (and many more) are taking their green message to a wider audience with Google Plus and other social networking sites.

By providing entertaining and useful articles and information, they keep their followers engaged, and ensure their message is heard.
