Renewable Energy Internships Prove Fairly Popular

I have a few excellent prospects for summer interns in 2014, the latest of whom, a young man from West Virginia, just sent a resume and spoke with me on the phone this morning.  Naturally, people wonder what this internship is all about, yet this is a hard question to answer, as it depends entirely on the person’s strengths and interests.

I direct “math/science” people into research on one of hundreds of topics that can be explored in emerging technologies, climate science, battery chemistries, projections for energy consumption by region, etc.

For those with a business focus, there are dozens of ways to take this, my favorite of which is understanding the experiences that our major corporations have had with respect to sustainability initiatives. Some such undertakings have actually benefitted the bottom line, by reducing waste in various forms or improving product demand and public relations.  Others have increased costs and reduced short-term profitability, but corporate governance deems them to be worthwhile nonetheless.

Those with political leanings have a field day, exposing the utter stupidity with which the many extremists in government regard the subject.

I suppose the bottom line is that there’s something here for everyone.  If you know of someone who may be interested, please let me know.
