VW Jetta TDI Wins Motortrend’s Hybrid and Diesel Cars: Fuel Efficiency Shootout
I was happy to see that my little VW Jetta TDI (turbo diesel) won Motortrend’s top award in their “Hybrid and Diesel Cars: Fuel Efficiency Shootout.” Apparently, they got 39.7 MPG in their test; for some reason, I get 43 quite consistently, and I drive it fairly aggressively. Mine’s a few years old, though; it’s possible that they’ve made changes since.
I must say: it’s not a BMW. I had a 540i for 15 years, and a 735i for 10 years before that, and I have to say that I miss them both. But now that I’ve been bitten by the “sustainability bug,” I feel quite happy saving fuel (and money). When I see people driving a Lincoln Navigator or a Cadillac Escalade, I just can’t imagine what they’re thinking.
