From Guest Blogger Micaela: Top 100 Green Initiatives 2015 by GreenMatch
Greenmatch UK has recently published a list of 100 Green Initiatives, awarding the Top 20 Green Bloggers, Top 20 Green Schools, Top 20 Green Projects, Top 20 Green Bites and Top 20 Green Community Initiatives for 2015 in the UK. The winners have been awarded for their efforts to achieve sustainability and for contributing to a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
The listed sites contain nice and useful resources, media, news and initiatives devoted to the environment. The award is a way to recognize the green efforts and to encourage more people to join the environmentally friendly initiatives. You can check the list here: top-100-green-initiatives.
The first place for the Top 20 Green Bloggers was awarded to Green Peace UK. “We work to bring about change through political lobbying, citizen action and consumer pressure. And we will take peaceful direct action to protect this fragile planet and promote the solutions for a green and peaceful future.”
In the second category, the Top 20 Green Schools, the winner was EDF Energy and their “Join the Pod” movement. The Education Programme Manager proudly mentioned that they have reached 19,500 schools across the UK and 36 countries with their resources and green campaigns. The school educates people on sustainability, energy and science.
In the next category, Top 20 Green Projects, the award was given to The Eden Project. This is the largest rainforest in captivity and is located in Cornwall. The project opened in 2001 and since then it is a place where people can connect with nature and reflect on how to preserve the environment.
The Top 20 Green Bites recognizes those restaurants in the UK that put an eye on organic, fair trade and so on. The first place was awarded to Café St Honoré, which is characterized for their Slow Food philosophy and their “good, clean and fair” food.
The last category is Top 20 Green Community Initiatives, where Mini-Scrapbox made it to the top. They follow the idea of “maximise re-use and minimise waste” to collect a wide variety of materials that are later re used in the community for workshops, clubs and more.
