Nuclear Energy: Where Is It Going?
It’s hard to predict what will happen to the nuclear industry. Taking a broad view, nuclear energy is both absolutely vital to low-emissions world and completely taboo even to discuss. I was reminded of this last week at the Low Carbon Investors conference in San Francisco, where a great number of high-level energy folks told me that nuclear is completely off the table, yet I constantly come across articles like this one featuring three potentially bright futures for the industry, called “Meltdown or Mother Lode (3 Nuclear Technologies and Why You Should Be Excited).”
I tried to do a decent job on liquid fluoride thorium reactors by devoting a whole chapter on the subject in my most recent book (Bullish on Renewable Energy).
In any case, it’s a shame that certain ideas as so inflammatory as to be unmentionable.
