Jobs and the Fossil Fuel Industries
Will there be jobs lost when we retire our last coal-fired power plant? Of course. 80,396 to be precise.
How upset should we be about that? I think about it like this: There are 100 million people worldwide working in the tobacco industry. There are even people who kill others more directly: professional executioners. Wouldn’t all people of kindness and compassion cheer if they all lost their jobs?
I’m not saying we don’t need jobs; I’m just saying we most definitely don’t need industries that kill people.
Also, keep in mind that there are 6.5 million people working in the solar PV industry, a number that’s growing every day.
