Should Canadians Vote for Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Today’s National Elections?
Believe it or not, there is a law on the books in Canada that stipulates: No person who does not reside in Canada shall…induce electors to….vote for or refrain from voting for a particular candidate. Violators are subject to a $5000 fine, up to six months in prison, or both.
I don’t wish to flout the law, so I’ll skirt it instead. Vote for whomever you want, Canadians, but realize that Harper has one of the most atrocious records on environmentalism of any national leader on Earth.
As I wrote earlier:
Harper is a climate change denier, which has the people who believe in science up there fairly cheesed off. But it’s his actions, not his beliefs, that people find most objectionable. In particular, he appears to be on a course to ruin the environment at the fastest possible rate with his exploitation of tar sands and shale gas. The article linked above contains the following:
It means taking every drop of hydrocarbon out of the ground, whether it’s shale gas in New Brunswick or tar sands in Alberta and trying to destroy the environment as fast as possible, with barely a question raised about what the world will look like as a result.
It’s an ugly situation — and a weird one at that; Canada’s a pretty enlightened place; it’s hard to imagine how they wound up with “leadership” like that.
Again, Canadians, it’s up to you. Vote your consciences.
