Our Energy Policy and the Malthusian Trap

With respect to my recent post on Malthus (pictured), a college professor in Arizona writes:  Craig, is there a Malthusian Trap for energy?  Do we run out of energy or a habitable environment first?

I’m confident that our civilization will turn this around from an energy perspective fairly soon, for all the (14) reasons I presented in my most recent book (Bullish on Renewable Energy – 2015).  Primarily, we’re very close to having a LCOE from solar and wind that rivals that of coal, and we’re also close to implementing storage in various forms, as well as transmission, and other technologies to mitigate the variable nature of the resources.

The remaining question, however, is: How much damage will we have done in the process?  The answer: No one knows.

We also have huge issues with respect to the consumption of meat; what we’re doing re: animal husbandry is completely unsustainable, and it’s destroying our planet faster than any other single aspect (energy included) of our deplorably irresponsible approach to living on this planet.
