Citizens United: Buh-Bye!
As I wrote yesterday, Obama is not checking out of here without making some extremely important reforms before he goes, and he seems to be picking up the pace as the time for his departure from office nears. Here he’s going after Citizens United, the US Supreme Court decision that grants corporations the right to spend as much money as they like to influence our elections and eviscerate our democracy.
It’s easy to lament the fact that the U.S. Congress is owned by our corporations, but it’s very difficult indeed not to be impressed by a president who, recognizing the sad truth, simply gets things done in the only way he can.
It’s possible that the rafters that hold all of our political corruption in place are starting to quiver and wobble, soon to fall to the ground. What a great time to be alive.
