Making Our Way Towards Sustainability
The populations in most countries are becoming increasingly eco-conscious, as evidenced by reports like this one, indicating that there are now more bicycles than cars in Copenhagen. To be fair, it’s possible that a cause on this is the 100% tax on automobiles in Denmark. Yet this has been in place for a very long time, and it’s clear that the Danish take enormous pride in the efforts they’ve made in the direction of things like clean energy.
This phenomenon (obviously) is a considerable boon to our civilization’s path to environmental sustainability. I believe, however, that this trend is of secondary importance, behind the rapidly increasing cost-effectiveness of renewable energy, efficiency solutions, energy storage, electric vehicles, etc. Ironically, it appears that we will decarbonize our energy and transportation sectors whether we give a damn about our environment or not.
