Caring About the Future of Our Civilization Could Be “a Thing” … and Fairly Soon

In this incredible interview, legendary environmentalist, eternal optimist, and one of my true heroes Paul Hawken points out that a sustainable civilization can come about quite easily, as only a small percentage of any society is required to create an extremely powerful force. As an example, he offers the LGBT movement.  Though it’s a relatively small percentage of the overall population, those associated with it tend to be strong, unified and outspoken, and, as a consequence, have created a circumstance in which the politicians who stand against them do so at considerable peril to their careers.

I was reminded of this earlier today on my daily jog, at the end of which I snapped the picture above in the beach parking lot.  It may be true today that people with Ferraris are more likely than Prius drivers to be told their car is cool, but that will change.  Paul and I buy into this in a big way.
