Inciting Violence as a Response to the Politics of the Day

nra-stand-and-fight-logoThose who may have been worried that our society was devolving into a nation of apathetic slugs can certainly lay aside those concerns at this point.  Join 5.6 million of your other fellow Americans, and check out the ad below from the National Rifle Association. Does any of this sound like sitting around and passively watching the events of the day?

As you watch the commercial, I hope you’ll ask yourself a handful of questions:

How fair is it? Yes, there are tens of millions of Americans who are resisting what’s going on in the federal government, but how violent are they?

Is the media assassinating real news?

Do our schools teach children that their president is another Hitler?

What does the ad hope to accomplish? A resolution of conflict through dialog and mutual understanding? A coming together for the good of our country?

Is owning/using a gun, i.e., vigilante justice, truly the best, perhaps only, recourse for law-abiding citizens?

Is there any potential profit motive in the ad?

On balance, does this seem like a reasonable and responsible message to you?

America: We have a lot of soul-searching to do.

    Craig,

You are quite right, extremism and violence only begets more violent extremism.

Being a citizen of two nations with very tough gun laws, and restricted access to fire arms, it’s difficult to understand the American passion for owning guns.

As a lawyer, I find the decisions by the US Supreme Court in regard to the Second Amendment difficult to understand.

I agree with you, it’s time for all Americans, of all persuasions, especially the media, to start showing more respect and responsibility to one another.

The President’s tweets are often regrettable, but he is also the victim of unprecedented vitrol and vehemence from sections of the press and media establishment.

Steven Colbert delights in praising Madonna’s exhortation to “blow up ” the White House and kill the Presi9dent. He defended another comedian for making a joke about how the murderous assault on GOP representatives was justified. Even more hypocritically, he makes remarks about female members of the Trump family, which if made about anyone else would be greeted with howls of indignant feminist outrage.

The rabid attack on the fairly mild NRA ad, is typical of the angry left. There’s enough blame to be shared among both camps.

    It’s a very unedifying spectacle.
