From Guest Blogger Laura Williamson: All You Need To Know About The World-changing Solar Energy–Tesla’s Approach Towards Solar Power
After changing the way we drive cars, South African-born American Elon Musk is trying his best to change the way we approach solar energy. Have you heard of Tesla solar roofs? Do you know the real-life Iron Man businessman, Elon Musk, took over SolarCity and manufactured a roof design which is not only cheaper than traditional solar panels but also aesthetically amazing? That is not all; they come with an infinity warranty. Yes, read it again and let that sink in!
Tesla is not stopping right there. Tesla’s Power wall is a powerful battery which will end your relationship with the utility company by saving up the extra solar energy that your panels are generating, which you can use later on when you need it. Earlier, this excess energy was supplied to the utility company, but now it is a hundred percent yours.
Tesla has teamed up with Panasonic to mass-produce batteries to bring down its cost (now at 5500$ plus taxes). The recent reports suggest that currently the battery can save up energy which is somewhat equal to the half of what an average person consumes in a day, and they are trying to double that up to ensure maximum utilisation.
Musk even believes that if we are able to combine all renewable sources of energy, i.e. utility-scale solar, rooftop solar, geothermal, wind, hydro and nuclear, then Earth is not far from a pollution-free, energy-sufficient future. Currently, our fossil fuel burn rate is far beyond imaginable, and investment in renewable sources is more of a need than a choice.
Apart from helping you cost-effectively generate your energy, solar energy will also remove all the transmission lines that you so detest. Yes, the lines will disappear in a matter of days because every house will have an energy-producing and storing unit of their own.
The complete exhaustion of fossil fuels is just one of the many negative consequences that we face while using tons and tons of it. One other is the fact that it produces harmful gases that have hazardous effects on the environment, such as air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution. You are not unaware of the many repercussions of fuel exhaustion, so it is better we shift our focus to the idea in hand, i.e. solar power.
The significant drawback of shifting focus from the fossil fuel industry is that it is an overly massive industry which employs millions and millions of individuals around the world. Staying true to our moral-self, isn’t it incorrect to try something that might shut it down and cause chaos in the industry. Millions will lose their job; some, who don’t know anything other than making sure you get the form of fossil fuel you require. What will happen to them? Do you have a plan in mind for them?
Musk believes that he can fulfil over 1/4th of Earth’s energy requirement in less than a century with the help of Solar City, and by far we have seen that whatever he speaks of, he makes sure it comes true. E.g. an appealing electric car that can beat any fuel car around the world- Tesla, Inc.
What the Governments can do around the world is to find alternate sources of employment for the ones, who will lose their job once the focus is shifted from fossil fuel industry to renewable energy resource industry. They can run campaigns, training sessions or even create subsidiaries where these individuals get employed and help in saving the environment on a global scale.
What Tesla is trying to teach us is that we should start using solar products in our everyday lives to get a grip on them, so when in future, he comes up with something that can harness and store incredible amounts of energy, then we are ready to exploit that invention to its fullest potential.
Step towards the future with solar technology or get left far behind!
