How Much Bad News Can Trump Supporters Absorb?

downloadIt’s hard to understand how Trump’s approval rating is hanging steady, since entire constituencies keep getting bad news.  Say you’re a Kentucky coal miner, and you liked Trump because of his promise to put more coal miners back to work.  You know, “Trump Digs Coal.”  But now you see people losing their jobs, and you wonder if you’re next, as the number of jobs in this space has actually decreased.

    Craig,

Perhaps the answer to your question can be found in the remarks by Tyler White, President of the Kentucky Coal Association,

“We feel that the blood-letting that was happening as recently as 2016 has ceased,T.We’re doing a lot better.President Trump’s policies have put the industry on a more even keel and boosted optimism ”

In in a rare display of solidarity, both the Coming Unions, and the Coal Industry Associations issued a statement crediting President Trump for stopping the big job losses occurring under Obama.

The US Coal Industry is starting to receive revived investment as forecasts for the future pricing of natural gas reveal expectations for higher prices due to increased export demand.

The number of jobs created by the resurgence of the US coal industry has almost doubled, although most of those jobs have been in related industries. The number of actual miners may have decreased due to technology, but the number of highly skilled service jobs has increased.

The new jobs are not necessarily in Col extraction, but in the auxiliary logistics. The Coal unions and Industry understand the positive aspects of the President’s policies, not just nit-pick and try to rearrange statistics to paint a false picture of failure.
