Edible Insects
2GreenEnergy super-support Gary Tulie writes from England: Edible insects have slowly been gaining acceptance in Europe as a more sustainable alternative to main stream meats. Now Sainsburys, one of the biggest supermarket chains in the UK has begun to stock insects such as roast crickets.
Maybe I’m misguided, but I see this as a double-edged sword. Yes, eating crickets offsets animal agriculture to whatever degree. But it’s so psychologically taxing (like recycling water), that it actually may have a net negative effective on the environmentalism movement by associating it with sacrificing our quality of life.
This stuff needs to be fun, which is why plant-based meat that is indistinguishable from beef (see above) is such a wonderful breakthrough. With no sacrifice in terms of satisfaction whatsoever, you’re improving your health, while making life better for everyone on Earth, not to mention the cow.
Can’t we feed the crickets to fish, and then eat the fish?
Craig,
Actually, insects have long been part of the human diet and in some cultures considered great delicacies.
” plant-based meat that is indistinguishable from beef is such a wonderful breakthrough. With no sacrifice in terms of satisfaction whatsoever, you’re improving your health, while making life better for everyone on Earth, not to mention the cow”.
Why do you persist with such nonsense ?
It’s a lie !
“Plant-based meat”, does not exist! Mislabeled meat substitutes do exist, but are not “indistinguishable from beef” ! These substitutes contain all sorts of dangerous food additives and lack such essentials a VB12 etc.
Since these artificial chemical laden synthetic unnatural food product a less healthy, less satisfying, certainly don’t improve life on earth, and are actually worse for cows who would become extinct. It’s obvious that the whole vegeburger concept is just a ploy to make money by harnessing emotive, irrational propaganda to increase the sales of a food product that should properly be sold with a Health Warning.
As I have said before, it’s the right of anyone to eat what they think is best for their own dietary needs, but just label it correctly and accurately.
