Celebrating the Teachings of Christ at Easter
Easter is a good time to reflect on the content of the meme here. It’s a reminder that we’re surrounded by two entirely different groups of “Christians”–those who live according to His teachings, and those who live in the precise opposite manner.
I know there are hateful, greedy pigs out there; that’s not the issue. But why on Earth do they choose to call themselves “Christians” when their lives bear no connection whatsoever to that of Jesus? A strange phenomenon in a bizarre world.
Craig,
I’m not sure what He would have made of a person who called others “hateful, greedy pigs”, and used his teachings to endorse any particular partisan political ideology.
In 1914, Pope Benedict XV was very distressed to witness the start of World War I, a war he labeled “The Suicide of Civilized Europe.”
During the war, he also noted all the various combatants wore on their uniforms the claim, “God is on our side”. The Pontiff observed sadly, “no-one seems interested in being on God’s side”.
Searching through the teachings of Christ, there is no instance of His ” Welcoming of Women into the Ministry as Equals”, (no female apostles etc).
Some people find it comforting (or advantageous) to alter, re-interpret or even re-invent history and past events to conform with modern narratives or constructs.
This phenomenon has always existed as part of the human condition, and the USA has always been one of the great practitioners of re-writing history to suit the prevailing contemporary narrative of the era.
