Trump and Financial Crime: Yawnnnnnnn
The sequel to the 2018 best-seller that trashed the Trump Organization (“Fire and Fury: Trump in the White House) will be published on 4 June. In it, former White House adviser Steve Bannon has described the Trump Organization as a criminal entity and predicted that investigations into the president’s finances will lead to his political downfall, when he is revealed to be “not the billionaire he said he was, just another scumbag.”
It’s always interesting to hear predictions about how Trump’s supporters might react to news of their hero’s boorish behavior/criminality. One might have thought that any of one hundreds events would have proved fatal to Trump’s political career: his mocking a disabled journalist, or bragging about grabbing women by their genitalia, or accepting the word of Putin on election interference over his own intelligence, or condoning white supremacy, or helping the Saudi cover their butchering a journalist, or lying dozens of times a day, or firing James Comey to stop the Russia investigation.
Anyone offering predictions about Trump’s longevity in the White House needs to keep in mind that his supporters simply do not care about any of the things that used to take down politicians in an instant.
Now, you ask, what about criminality? What about it? Do you see Trump supporters clamoring to get to the bottom of any of the criminal investigations into his conduct? You know, the 2016 Russian election attack, the Trump Tower Moscow project, Russia-Trump Campaign contacts, obstruction of justice, campaign finance violations, Trump Organization finances, inauguration funding, SuperPAC funding, foreign lobbying violations, Turkish influence, Trump Organization tax fraud, Trump Foundation fraud, and violations of the emoluments clause.
Is it likely that Trump supporters will be outraged that he lied about his net worth or that his business dealings were blatantly illegal “shady?” Zzzzzzzzzzzz……….
Craig,
Whew ! ‘ll bet you’re glad to get out all that bile and venom, aren’t you?
Of course, you don’t mind a little lying yourself do you ? Especially in such a good cause as hating the President for being, well, … elected President!
So, in your usual obsessive way, you rant your usual “Never Trump” tirade consisting of old lies and long disproved accusations out of frustration at seeing a man you despise succeeding in making the US a better place, enriching the working class and gaining support.
Why?
The American people have grown weary of endless invented scandals and over-hyped exaggerations. Unlike you, the leftist media, professional Trump haters and some really demented Democrats, the vast majority are focused on real issues and problems they expect the President to devise policies to remedy.
So far, this President has done very well. Unemployment is at an historic low, productivity at a 40 year high, the President has cut spending, cut taxes, and produced real growth in blue collar wages without increasing inflation.
Internationally, the US has changed from being a laughingstock indulging in either pointless military adventures or expensive “symbolic ” empty gestures.
The President has re-positioned the US into a tough determined, but controlled competitor, forcing foes to reconsider the wisdom of their actions while forcing allies to fulfill their obligations.
Admittedly his style is very unusual, even brusque and crude, but effective and very American in candour.
You tirades no longer even have the semblance of sincerity. That’s evidenced by your double standards.
Relax, you’ll have your opportunity in 2020 to exercise your democratic right. In the meantime I would suggest a little less outrage and obsessive behavior would benefit your own mental health and happiness,
