America’s Deadly Gun Culture

UntitledA first grader who found his grandmother’s loaded gun at school last spring pointed it at another student. The 9-mm handgun belongs to his grandmother, Vicky Nelson, the district’s transportation director, who is permitted to carry the weapon as part of the district’s concealed-carry plan adopted last year to arm administrators and select staff members to protect students from potential gun violence.

Well, we all know that the only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good little 6-year-old with a gun.

Seriously, this is what a country looks like when the NRA leads it around by the nose.  Robert Reich notes:  Once again, the NRA has blocked efforts to pass universal background checks. In a recent phone call, NRA president Wayne LaPierre warned Trump that background checks were completely off the table. Then, yesterday, Trump called LaPierre to tell him he would not pursue background checks — less than a month after the shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

    Craig,

Every issue, no matter how relevant becomes an excuse for you to rage against the President.

According to your logic President Trump is responsible for the mass shootings in El Paso, and equally responsible for the mass shooting in Dayton by an Antifa and, “pornogrind” band member known for its graphic, violent lyrics. The shooter was a registered Democrat and an avid Elizabeth Warren supporter.

He obtained his firearms and body armor illegally.

Neither background checks or the President could have prevented the killings. Nor did anything Elizabeth Warren did, or said, responsible.

The killer had a history of mental instability (but no formal record) and long history of illicit drug abuse(also unrecorded).

Mass shooting are not caused by the NRA or anyone else but the shooters themselves.

However, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest the exploitation of mass killings by politicians, advocates and other pundits keen to seize these opportunities to sensationalize, publicize and glamorize these events, may contribute to the frequency.

Indeed, permanently outraged advocates like yourself, may be a major contributing factor in mass shootings.

It’s a sad fact of history the US has now more guns than people and a deeply ingrained gun culture dating back 300 years.

The reality is the American people are willing to put up with mass shootings rather than allow effective gun control.

The reason “gun control” advocacy falls on deaf ears is because the advocates are dishonest and hypocritical.

Gun control advocates are not really interested in preventing mass shootings, they are only interested in the political capital to be made from the emotions of victims and furthering of political agenda.

You are a good example. Just three weeks ago you commented Australia passed strict(er) gun laws and as a result no single mass shootings had occurred since passing the laws. I replied, citing the occurrence of at least 11 subsequent tragic mass shootings ocuuring since the laws were passed, you refused to acknowledge your error.

You blame President Trump for the recent spate of shootings (no evidence) yet when provided with he evidence that President Obama’s term saw twice as many, you fell silent.

You are not the worst of the hypocrites seeking the exploit these sad events, but you are part of the problem.

Misogynists, crazies, extremists, the mentally unbalanced crave sensational publicity. This is the oxygen needed to vindicate their miserable existence. The more outrageous the act, the more publicity they attract.

You provide these otherwise insignificant outcasts, with the motive to perpetrate their murderous activities.

It’s far, far too late to impose any effective form of gun control. Just as it’s far, far too late to expect any responsibility from the media and political classes.
