Trump’s Legacy
Ha! I had completely forgotten that there were people who thought that Trump’s purported business acumen might be the foundation for his “growing into the office.” Hope springs eternal.
What wasn’t clear at the time is the extraordinary degree to which he has no interest in anything except his own aggrandizement and enrichment.
What we’ve seen in the U.S. is no different than the rise to power of all the other terrible people in world history, coming, as it does, as a product of desperate and angry people, and a demagogue who effectively capitalizes on their misery. As in every case, no one expects that kind of evil; they don’t think it’s possible that the man they adore couldn’t care less about them, and they get squashed so quickly and thoroughly they never knew what hit them.
What will U.S. voters inherit when Trump, through whatever means, leaves office? A huge national debt requiring higher taxes to pay for it. A country without military allies. A nation of racial distrust and hate. A chaos of deeply strained international trade relationships. A blend of laughingstock and pariah on the world stage, roundly jeered, but also despised for its selfishness, betrayals, cruelty, and environmental recklessness.
True patriots are doing everything in their power to minimize the destruction. Godspeed to them.
Craig,
Ah ha, bit creepy,….I mean ol’ Bill Oakley demand s all those who don’t see the world his way should lose their jobs and be locked in a basement!
Poor old Bill. Fortunately, there are a lot of more rational souls among us who can except and live with the fact that the elected President may not be to our liking, but we must just accept the judgement of our fellow citizens, and wait for the next election.
That’s kinda how ‘representative democracy’ works. There should be no yelling, violence to other voters, certainly no one “locked in basements”.
It must be just awful for you to discover that despite all your hysteria and hatred, the President continues to fulfill his election pledges and enjoys no loss of support.
